This day-long conference intensive at the Environmental Design Research Association’s annual conference (EDRA47) will address the question of how critical heritage studies theory can and should change the practice of the conservation of the historic environment (built heritage and cultural landscapes). Perspectives on how the regulatory environment can/should be changed to accommodate more diverse cultural perspectives and practices are especially welcome from the perspective of new legal realism. - Law and Society Association 2015 Annual Meeting, Seattle, WA (May 28-31, 2015): The theme of this year’s meeting was “Law’s Promise and Law’s Pathos in the Global North and Global South.” LSA Collaborative Research Network #28: Realist and Empirical Methods hosted a paper session. The workshop, “Paper, Practice, Power, and Numbers,” featured presentations that explored the relationship between legal doctrine and practice. The panel examined how judges perform law and how they invent fictional characters to protect real people. Additionally, panelists discussed the complex task of incorporating empirical approaches of New Legal Realism into legal education outside of the United States.

- New Legal Realism 10th Anniversary Conference Scholars gathered at the University of California, Irvine on August 29-30, 2014 for the New Legal Realism 10th Anniversary Conference. The theme of the meeting was “Future Directions for Legal Empiricism.” See the program for more information about the conference panels and speakers.

- Happy 50th Birthday LSA! In May 2014, the Law & Society Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary in Minneapolis, MN. The LSA website has some interesting content on the first and upcoming half centuries of sociolegal research. And catch our NLR commentaries on the blog!
- The Wisconsin Journal of Law, Gender, and Society published a special issue in memory of Jane Larson. It included essays by Michelle Oberman, Cynthia Grant Bowman, and Martha E. Ertman with a preface by Gerald Torres and an introduction by Elizabeth Mertz.
