  • Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship in Equity and Fairness at the Nexus of Civil and Criminal Justice: The T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics (SSFD) at Arizona State
    University (ASU) invites applications for up to two postdoctoral scholar positions in the area of
    equity and fairness at the nexus of civil and criminal justice. SSFD, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is an innovative interdisciplinary academic unit that engages diverse approaches to study society, institutions, communities, families and individuals.  The postdoctoral scholars selected will join a cohort of 10-15 other postdoctoral scholars at ASU as part of the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The goal of the program is to support the career development of outstanding Ph.D. recipients with great potential for advancing the ASU Charter into a future tenure track appointment at ASU. 

Job duties: Successful applicants for the postdoctoral positions must demonstrate the ability to    contribute to the mission of the School. Successful candidates will engage in scholarly research and have the option of teaching on-campus and online. The specific responsibilities of the position
include: conducting research and publishing scholarship within the person’s specialty area(s).
Postdoctoral scholars will have the option of teaching in the School’s curriculum.
Minimum qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in a social-scientific field from a regionally-accredited university or clear
demonstration that the Ph.D. will be received by the time of appointment;
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching; and,
• Substantive specialization in some aspect of justice and equity at the nexus of civil
and criminal law.

  • Vulnerability and the Human Condition Initiative Fellowship- 2022-2024 Research Fellowship or Postdoctoral Fellowship: Applicants for this position should be interested in vulnerability theory and articulate how they intend to use the theory in their research.

    Responsibilities of a research or postdoctoral fellow include the following:

    • Assume primary responsibility for the development of your research and career.
    • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as appropriate.
    • Perform the research required by the faculty supervisor to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
    • Assist in teaching courses aligned with VHC’s mandate when appropriate and attend the Initiative’s workshops and events.
    • Work in a collegial and cooperative manner with the faculty supervisor and other co-workers.

Start Date: The appointment will be a two-year full-time Research or Post-Doctoral Fellowship and will commence on August 1, 2022.

Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.

  • The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University is happy to announce its call for Post-Doc Fellowship applications for the academic year 2022-23. Applicants from all disciplines and fields, including economics, social sciences, business, the humanities, and the law are encouraged to apply.

    The Edmond J. Center Safra stands at the forefront of academic research in the critical and multidisciplinary interface between market, ethics and law. They promote a variety of activities, designed to stimulate dialogue, to exchange and advance knowledge, and to explore new ideas.   • Law and Society Association 2021 Annual Meeting (May 27- May 30, 2021):  LSA Collaborative Research Network #28: New Legal Realism is hosting several virtual panels at the Annual Meeting this year. The schedule for CRN 28 events is available here!
  • The 2021 Law & Social Inquiry Graduate Student Paper Competition is now open!  LSI invites direct submissions from graduate and law students and nominations of student work from faculty. The author must be a graduate student or law student at the time the paper was written and when submitted. Faculty nominations should include a short description along with the paper and contact details for the student. Submissions will be evaluated by our editors. The winning submission will be sent to selected scholars for advisory reviews to aid with revisions prior to publication. All submissions (direct and faculty nominated) are weighted equally in the competition. The winning paper will be published in Law & Social Inquiry and the author(s) will receive a total cash prize of $500 (US).

    Please send article as a Microsoft Word document to lsi-abf@abfn.org. Please indicate that (1) you intend to be considered in the competition, (2) you are currently a graduate student, and (3) you have not submitted your article to LSI or any other journals for publication. Submissions are limited to one paper per student.

    Submissions must include a title page with a mailing address, email address, and phone number, and an abstract of no more than 200 words. The total length of submissions, including references and footnotes, must not exceed 15,000 words. Entries will be accepted starting February 10, 2021 and must be received by April 1, 2021.

  • The Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University is accepting applications for its 2021-22 post-doctorate fellowship program. The Center offers grants to outstanding researchers who study the ethical, moral and political aspects of markets, local or global, real or virtual. The Center encourages applications from all disciplines and fields, including economics, social sciences, business, the humanities, and the law.

    Candidates must have a PhD from a recognized institution in Israel or abroad, and must have received their degree after February 15th 2017. Candidates with permanent positions at universities or colleges are not eligible. Preference will be given to candidates who have not received their degree from TAU.

  • Arizona State University has launched a new Law and Science Dissertation Grant (LSDG) program, funded through the National Science Foundation (SBE #2016661). The award to ASU will provide funding of up to $20,000 apiece to doctoral students in diverse law-and-science disciplines (e.g., anthropology, criminal justice, economics, forensic science, political science, psychology, sociology) to conduct their dissertation research. The next submission deadline is April 30, 2021.

  • UC Berkeley’s Center for the Study of Law and Society invites applications for visiting scholars for 2021-2022. The Center fosters empirical research and theoretical analysis concerning legal institutions, legal processes, legal change, and the social consequences of law.  The application deadline is Nov. 15, 2020.
